From Vision to Home: Broadway Village Nears Completion

A shared courtyard centrally situated, providing outdoor space for residents of the newly constructed Broadway Village.

Broadway Village, a 48-unit permanent supportive housing development, is nearing completion and preparing to welcome residents in Vallejo, CA. This project is a collaboration between the City of Vallejo and Firm Foundation Community Housing.

The City of Vallejo and Firm Foundation have partnered with SHELTER Inc., a local nonprofit that provides housing and support services to low-income individuals and families. Shelter Inc. will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the village, ensuring residents have the resources they need to achieve self-sufficiency.

Community Comes Together to Create A sense of Home

Construction is now complete and the building is ready for residents to move in. To prepare for this milestone, a dedicated group of volunteers recently came together to furnish the units and common areas.

On July 23rd and 24th, Firm Foundation, Wells Fargo Foundation, and Make It Home hosted a successful volunteer event. Over the course of two days, employees and volunteers from Wells Fargo, Make It Home, City of Vallejo, Shelter, Inc., and youth from the local nonprofit Healthy Vallejo, worked to transform the building into a welcoming home. They assembled beds and dining furniture and even hung art work, ensuring each of the units are furnished and ready for its future residents. Healthy Vallejo volunteers also took up the daunting task of hauling away the countless cardboard boxes and large piles of leftover debris from the furniture day, moving us even closer to a move-in ready building.

Selenia Charles and Antoinette Smith from SHELTER, Inc. were among the many volunteers who built furniture on July 23rd and 24th.

The light-filled community room, with floor-to-ceiling windows, stunning wood detailed ceiling, plush lounge chairs, books and games, is an ideal space for unwinding and connecting with neighbors.

In addition to the units, volunteers prepared the shared outdoor spaces to welcome community building. Make It Home also introduced a creative and thoughtful touch: a "book nook" for each floor of the main building, providing a quiet, comfortable space for residents to read and relax.

As final touches are added, anticipation is building for the grand opening of Broadway Village. This initiative is a testament to the power of community collaboration and will soon provide a safe and stable home for many in the community.

Note: We are still looking for support to close out final capital costs. If you are interested in partnering with Firm Foundation Community Housing to finish out the Broadway Village, let’s have a conversation. Please reach out to Taryn Sandulyak, taryn@ffchousing.org.
